Cards & Tags Thursday

Happy Spring Everyone. Mom's Day is over and that means that Dad's day is on the horizon. I used papers from the May Express Kit to get started on my Father's Day Cards.

Using SN@P and Amy Tangerine papers I got to creating.
This first card is 9 3/4 x 7.5 folded in half at the 7.5 mark for a final card of 9 3/4 x 3 3/4
I used my favorite bunch at the base and 2 brads at the top on a 9 1/4 x 3 1/4 sized mat. Easy breezy.

This paper did all the work. Using a standard sized card in Kraft, I used both sides of Amy Tangerine's paper.I cut a short piece of the paper that had "Love you to the starts and back" on one line to accent the card along with a chipboard star that I blinged out with some glitter.

Dad's are easy to please and making dad a card should be the same.

Thanks for visiting.

Challenge Wednesday

Aloha! It's time for a Challenge Wednesday blog post. Have you ever found yourself in an inspiration rut with a bad case of scrapper's block? Yes, me too. But this month on the Memory Works Studio forums Team Works Designer Cathie Hollins has managed to get our creative energy channeled again with a really fun idea. The May Challenge: Get inspired by a print advertisement in the newspaper or magazines you read every day to get your creative mojo back!

When I saw this flyer at my local coffee shop, there was something that looked so familiar about it. I realized I had a photo of my daughter posed very similar to the model in this ad. I also loved the color scheme in this ad; the blue-greens of the water, the clouds in the sky, and the accent colors in the model's dress and the typography of the ad. I decided to use the overall feel of the ad and the color scheme in my layout.

Here is advertisement I used:

And here is the layout I made:

I thought the ad had a very dreamy feel to it and I hoped to evoke that same emotion in my layout. What do you think? Don't the pretty aqua chevrons from Teresa Collins and the Dear Lizzy cloud vellum give an airy feeling of being off on cloud 9? The Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm die cuts from the new catalog are to die for and you will definitely want to get the whole line including those cute flair buttons. And its not too late to get the beautiful Teresa Collins Tell Your Story on clearance along with the word banners from Dear Lizzy 5th and Frolic. Don't forget Memory Works also has so many mists for creating your own artsy effects on your pages which you can find here. Looking for wood veneers? They are here under mixed media.

I hope I have inspired you in your pursuit of your scrappy groove and to look for new ways to combine product lines and both old and new product  in ways that maximize your scrapbooking budget.

If you are a Memory Works Consultant make sure you head over to the Studio (if you haven't joined yet get an invite from home office- you don't know what you're missing!) and participate in this months challenge! There will be a prize for the winner!

Cards & Tags Thursday

Welcome to this weeks Cards & TAGS inspiration. I totally failed last week (sorry about that), but this week I thought I would share two cards I made for National Scrapbook Day!

I used the Dear Lizzy - Lucky Charm papers and embellishments!

For the 1st card, I used the 6x6 paper pad for the 3 rectangle pieces, the arrow strip was located at the bottom of one of the 12x12 pattern papers and the flair was in my stash (BasicGrey from a few catalogs ago).

The 2nd card was created partially by my silhouette. I designed a heart and duplicated it and put it on a strip to give the heart cut-out in the light blue strip of paper. I than placed the darker blue paper behind the strip. Next I used a Flag and Labels Stucker (Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm) and wrapped some floss around the card. Finally I added the Dear Lizzy - Lucky Charm Flare. I love the pop of yellow!

Happy Cardmaking!

Challenge Wednesday

Hi, Cathie here with the challenge for May!  We all get in ruts from time to time and seem to lose our mojo or creative flow so here is a challenge that will cause you to look outside the box of the normal places to go for inspiration for that special card or layout.  Newspapers, magazines and advertising flyers have great and creative advertising and these transfer really well to layouts and cards.  I found a display ad in an old copy of Creating Keepsakes magazine and came up with a layout for a couple of pictures from my father in laws 90th birthday party that we had in February.

First... here is my inspiration,

And here is my layout... I used the April Memory Works Expess Kit for this layout.  You can see all the fabulous products that Memory Works carries here.

If you are not already subscribing the the monthly Express Kits by Memory Works, I highly recommend that you at least check them out. There is no contract and you can cancel at any time. You will be amazed at the value you receive in each months kit! So, go through those old magazines and advertising flyers and see if you can find your next great project!

Thanks so much for joining me today and be sure to check back each Wednesday this month for more challenging fun!
