Spring into New

There may still be snow on the ground, but we all know that spring is right around the corner. A time when everthing is new and renewing itself and we can't help but feel the anticipation. The same holds true for Memory Works. Its that time of year when we anticipate the new catalog and all the new goodies. Some of those new lines are making an appearance on the web site now http://www.memory-works.com/ .

One of the new product lines is Dear Lizzy by American Crafts with a definate feeling of spring and joy. I created the layout and card below using Dear Lizzy,  I love the colors and sparkle and freshness of this line. Perfect for those upcoming Easter pictures.

Many of our favorite vendors new products are appearing as well, such as Cosmo Cricket, Jenni Bowlin and Crate Paper to name a few. And don't forget the so versatile, amazing Simple Stories, Life Documented line exclusive of Memory Works. So "hop' on over and check it out, you'll like what you see :)

It's Magic!!

If you're a "fan of the mouse" like I am, I was so excited to see that MemoryWorks carries the Creative Imaginations: Magic Line!

This line is great for your fun vacation photos from the "mouse's house"! I love that it's not "over the top" so it doesn't overpower your photos. It's just Disney-ish enough, but you can use it for other things, too! Some of the papers would be awesome for graduation photos, even the 4th of July! Many of the patterned papers feature silver foil accents that really shine.

Wendy's Corner - "Mini Photo Prints"

Welcome to the first in a monthly series of blog posts here on the MemoryWorks blog titled "Wendy's Corner"!!

I'm excited about sharing lots of great ideas with you that inspire me, including, but not limited to, "how to" kind of things - techniques, cool projects, products, etc....There are LOTS of great ideas in store this year to kick up the notch here on the Memory Works blog and I'm truly honored to share in this with the team!

Mini Photo Prints

Lots of printers (including my favorite photo printer that I use, Epson Picturemate) can print BEAUTIFUL quality, mini photos for small projects (i.e. mini books, cards, 6x6, 8x8 pages, etc).  Also, you can request/order/print out index prints with your batch of digital prints from the photo store.  These are also available to save to CD and order on CD with your photo development to keep our digi prints organized. Well, take it up a notch and print out the index print photo card or mini photos from your personal printer/photo printer.

I print A LOT of mini photos (i.e. index prints, 2x2, 3x3, etc.) because I focus a lot on mini albums with my blog.  This is one of the best scrap methods that works for me due to my travel schedule and having time to scrap full projects of a trip/event in a mini format and/or to give as gift albums.  I've given mini albums as gifts and my friends LOVEEEE each of them [usually tears come into the scene ;-)].

Here are a few ideas using mini photos from a recent mini book I've put together...

I love embellishing tags with mini prints. 

The Creative Imaginations Creative Cafe tags are PERFECT for doing this technique!

Sweet Spring is coming!

After grey skys for so long, it's wonderful to know Spring is approaching! I thought I would share with you some ways to welcome Spring and share some sweets with friends. Consider these Treat Toppers for Easter basket goodies, lunch box snacks or even fun party favors- this quick project can be customized for any occasion!



You will need the following materials: Buttons, thread, sticker letter, jewels, Pop Dots, Resealable plastic snack bags and treats of course!

Three Bugs Theme Set- Little Chick

Three Bugs Little Chick Die Cuts and Stickers:


Using the 4x6 squares from the Three Bugs Little Chick Them Set, cut theme out and fold them lengthwise. Decorate with matching diecuts and stickers, using pop dots for dimension. Fill bags with goodies, seal and attach toppers with pop dots.

These are sure to brighten someone's day! Enjoy!

Distressing Techniques

I am hooked on distressing and love to learn new ways of doing it. Thanks to Tim Holtz for his creativity in coming up with awesome products and awesome ways of using them and to MemoryWorks for carrying the products. This week I am going to show you how to make some easy tags that can be created in any colors or designs you would like by using some of those techniques.

"DAYS OF THE WEEK TAGS" by Sharon Hill

Techniques Used: Distressing, Wrinkle-Free Distressing, Masking, Stamping, Heat Embossing.



MW Products Used:
 Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Spiced Marmalade, Faded Jeans, Scattered Straw, Vintage Photo, Black Soot.
 Tim Holtz Embossing Ink
 Tim Holtz Distressing Powder in Black Soot
 Tim Holtz Florets Mini Mask
 Ranger Non-Stick Craft Mat
 Ranger Ink Blending Tool and Blending Foam
 Ranger Mini Misters
 7 Gypsies Journal Clear Stamps
 American Crafts Fun Clear Stamps

Non-MW Products Used:
 Shipping Tags from Staples
 Heat Gun
 Clear Blocks
 Stamp Scrubber
 Tray
 Water
 Paper Towels

Step 1:
Gather supplies.


Step 2:
Swipe ink of choice next to each other on craft mat.


Spritz ink with mini mister.


Place tag onto ink.


Carefully lift tag and dry with heat gun. (*Note: Tag will curl when wet but will flatten when dry)


-Place tag on remaining ink and dry again. (*Note: Try to avoid placing tag on large droplets. I used paper towel corner to wipe them up.)
-Wipe leftover ink from mat.

Step 3:
Using ink blending tool, ink edges of tag with a circular motion.


Step 4:
- Place mini mask on tag.
- Using ink blending tool, apply ink over mask using a swirling and blotting motion.
- Peel mask off tag.


Step 5:
Stamp image of choice.


Step 6:
-Stamp with embossing ink.
-Shake Distress Embossing Powder before opening to mix powder and crystals.
-Sprinkle powder over stamped image and tap excess powder off of tag.
-Heat with heat gun. (*Note: Distress Embossing Powders take longer to set than regular powder. Image will be matte and feel rough like sandpaper. If it feels like sand, heat image again.)
-Once tag and image are cool, rub finger over embossed area to remove the crystals. This gives a more distressed look. Throw away what is rubbed off.


Finished Tags:
-Once I finished embossing, I stamped the bird on the branch image.
-Decorate as desired.


These tags could be used with your Simple Stories album as journaling for the page. So have fun with this project and enjoy!
