A Little Something Sweet.....

Another MemoryWorks Retreat has wrapped up. Sniff..Sniff.......I wish I was there. So instead of seeing some "sweet" treats there, here are some "sweet" treats from TeamWorks Member Alison Hammond. Her "sweet" projects were made from the June Express Kit that was chocked full of goodies.

Alison Hammond's Card #1 and Card #2:

Next are 2 of Alison's layouts she created from the kit.

And finally, a clear paint can embellished with a cupcake bling and a "love" mini-album that are both just "sweet".;)

The "love" mini-album fits nicely in the can. Now, who can't pass up getting a cupcake can filled with love as a gift? :)

Retreat Day 3

Today was the final day of the 2009 retreat. What an amazing time I had and I'm sure everyone else would say the same thing. Thank you to ALL the teachers and sponsors of the retreat. It was fantastic and a HUGE thank you to home office. You did an AMAZING job once again!

I took video from the airport today - tired, exhausted and emotional (from being tired). I can't wait until the next retreat in 2011!!

Thanks for tuning into my quirky blogs and I hope you felt like you were apart of it.

Retreat Day 2

Greetings from the retreat! The staff and crew wanted to say hello! So here is a recap from tonight!

Father's Day is almost here!

Happy Friday! For those of you not at the retreat (myself included, sniff, sniff), you still have 2 whole days to come up with something fabulous for Father's Day! It might be the one day of the year that your Dad, husband, brother or son won't roll their eyes at your scrap projects, since its for THEM!

Here are a couple of last-minute card ideas, made with Cosmo Cricket's Lil' Man theme set and some fun acrylic stamps (WRMK "All Star" and Crate Paper "Orbit"):

You can personalize the front of any of these with a picture, word (letter stickers or rub ons!) or other embellishment.

And by the way...those "Orbit" stamps are ADORABLE!

I'm probably a little slow...but after using these on several projects, I JUST realized that the little aliens in the pack are reversible! Check this out:
Gotta love it!

When the new catalog came out, I was thrilled to see so many BOY themed products! Nearly every manufacturer has at least one more masculine line. Gone are the days of making your boy projects plain old Primary colors -- the new lines are fun, cute and even classy!

Here are some of my faves:
(7 Gypsies)

(Maya Road)
(3 Bugs in a Rug)

Happy Father's Day to all the men in our lives!

Technique Tuesday - All About Sandpaper!

Today’s “Technique Tuesday” has to do with our sense of touch!

According to Wikipedia, the first recorded instance of sandpaper was in 13th century China when crushed shells, seeds, and sand were bonded to parchment using natural gum. And, did you know that the modern process for making sandpaper was patented in the US by Issac Fischer of Springfield, Vermont in June of 1834?. Fun to think that an ancient “tool” is helpful to us today – and not just in woodworking shops – it’s a great way to add a distressed look to your paper projects, too!

Manufacturers have designed sandpaper tools with the scrapbooker in mind! MemoryWorks carries Heidi Swapp Sandpaper for only $2.00 (due back in stock at the end of June). It comes in an adorable “matchbook” type packaging and includes 5 2.5”x3” sheets. Or, check out the Precision File Set by Basic Grey

with six distressing files with rubber-coated grip for comfort and ease of use (for only $7.00). Two of the files are similar to emery boards, much like sandpaper. I love the pink rubber-coated handle on these to prevent the sandpaper from ruining my manicure!

So, how can you use sandpaper to create your next project? Here are some ideas!

-Use it to distress the edges of cardstock with a “white core”. Simply sand the edges of your paper to show the “white core” – a great way to help the edges stand out and create contrast. Especially when layering that piece over a darker background! Try this instead of “inking the edges” on your next project.

-Literally use sandpaper on your layout or card to mimic the look of sand!

-“Rough-up” the surface of your paper or even the edges of a photo for a distressed look and give dimension to your project! (I’d use a duplicate photo for this).

-Use it to sand down the rough edges when you cover chipboard letters or an album with paper or cardstock – helps to “bind” it to the edges.

-Lightly sand letter stickers or die cuts to give them a whole new look!

TECHNIQUE TUESDAY: PAPER PIECING

The June Challenges are all a-buzz about paper piecing! Today we are talking about paper piecing. All you need to do this is a great little pair of scissors, a template (found on-line or in magazine's), some scraps and embellishments. You can personalize your pieces to fit your layout!

Here's some pieces I did...enjoy!

Happy Scrapping!
