Product Wednesday - Acrylic Frame Post-it-Note Pad

Thanksgiving is tomorrow so that means only 32 days until Christmas... are you ready?  Do you need a quick project for a teacher gift or a stocking stuffer?  You may have seen these before, but I thought I would use our MemoryWorks October Express Kit and an acrylic frame to make this easy gift idea!

Cut your favorite paper at approximately 3 1/5 x 7.  I inked the edges of the paper with my Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  I then slipped the paper in the frame and gently bent the paper at the bend of the frame.  Next, I wrapped ribbon around the frame and added my embellish to the top portion with paper and added a digital Simple Stories sticker and a button.  You can add different embellishments to the top (monogram, chipboard stickers, skies the limit).  I did have to trim the angles on the back to give it a clean finish. 

I added alphabet stickers to read "Notes".  

To adhere the post-it-notes, I used AC Double-Sided Tape. 

I had seen this idea at least 6 months ago and had been meaning to try it and I love the way they turned out.  These are fun to make and best of all, they are so quick and inexpensive to make!

Sharing some love from a layout created up in my studio this weekend!

I was on a roll with several projects using the Simple Stories collections

and decided to share this 12x12 created from the "Life Documented" collection.

Simple Stories allows so much fun, possibilities, and inspiration for taking your scrapbooking

from the simple to the advanced. 

This layout really took me around 30 min to create

(including the stamping & additional advanced twist)

of embellishing added to the 4x6 journaling cards/inserts. 

It doesn't get any easier than grabbing a few 4x6 prints, Simple Stories page protectors,

12" trimmer, journaling pen,

and voila...

but

there are SO many "out-of-the-box" possibilities besides using the kit for layouts.

So, I had this unfinished wood box from a local craft store

and had every intention to jazz it up with the right touch

and found the perfect idea when I was thinking of a way to use Simple Stories

in the "non-traditional" way...

VOILA...

a family shadow box!!

I used the Life Documented Simple Stories collection on my project.

1.  My shadow box has a nice thick acrylic window so I used masking tape to tape around the edges on the window to keep from getting paint on the window. 

2.  Use a nice quality brand of acrylic paint (i.e. Golden, Liquitex) which can be found at your local craft store.  I use these brands (even though they are a little pricier but just a little goes a long way) because they have less water content and the colors are really vivid & you can usually do 1-2 coats (with a foam brush), no streaking, and you have a beautiful finish. 

3.  Allow to dry completely.

4.  Select papers of choice from Simple Stories collections (Life Documented or Ele.men.tary)  This project works great in any of the collections.  Also, I had a vintage dictionary I purchased from a local antique store and used pages on the edges. 

5.  Cut papers to size of of areas to be covered.  Measure carefully around the hinged areas.  Cut out all pieces and make sure they fit (including the pieces for the inside of your box) as you want before you glue them down with Ranger Multi Medium + foam brush.  Allow to dry completely.  Then, I added 1 coat of Ranger Glossy Accents applied with a foam brush for a slight gloss effect over the paint & papers.  Allow to dry completely. 

6. NOW the fun really starts...think of all the "out-of-the-box" possibilities to decorate the inside of your box. The Simple Stories collections are PACKED with lots of fun index tabs, stickers, letter stickers, border strips, transparencies...LOTS! Also, I strolled through the aisle of my local craft store in the DOLLHOUSE FURNITURE section! Yeahhhh!!! Don't limit yourself to the scrapbook section ;-) I wanted my shadow box to represent aspects of my family including the embellishments.

7.  I added the TV because my dad (who passed away in 2005) loved to watch "Sanford & Son", football, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy...I remember these times and the TV was the perfect touch to remember him. Also, the tool wrench because my dad was quite the handyman & so talented who loved to work in his shop.

8.  My mom is quite the baker!!!  She gets so many requests for her cakes & they are DELICIOUSSSSSS! 

9.  My sister & I in early youth and one of our favorite puppies, Cottonball or Snowball, we had 2 Eskimo Spitz and they were a big part of our family growing up.

10.  I cut the Simple Stories transparency to size and layered the photo on top along with Simple Stories letter stickers.

11.  For the back of the box, I added a sheet of paper from Simple Stories cut to size & a sticker from the collection.

Product Wednesday - Snowman Cards

I LOVED Sandy's post last Wednesday using BasicGrey's Snowman Stamps.  I just had to share more ideas with you on projects I've completed with this versatile stamp set.

OH and I want to give a QUICK shout out to my Daddy - today is his Birthday!!  happy birthday dad!!

Build A Snowman Card
 
I have used this card example at an expo for a make & take, a mom & me holiday card making class and just a fun afternoon with a friend making our holiday cards.

Supplies needed
BasicGrey: Snowman Stamp Set
Inkpad
Black Pen
Glue sticks
Scissors
American Crafts: White Cardstock (4 cards per sheet)
Holiday pattern paper of choice (I have 3 6x6 paper pads)

Basic Grey - Jovial

Cosmo Cricket - Mitten Weather

Crate Paper - Snow Days

This card is so easy even kids can participate!
 
Have them stamp, cut and paste their own snowman together!

A great afternoon with a friend and a latte.


Note: My friend Ann is not a scrapbooker.  She told me that it was really fun and easy to create!

Cutting the Cards

1. First cut, 8” x 12”
2. Next, cut three 8” x 4” pieces
3. Finally, cut your 4” x 12” piece to 4” x 8”. You will have a little excess square. 
4. Score each card to be 4” x 4” once folded. These will fit in a standard envelope.

Build your Snowman

1. Using one of the snowman base / body stamps, stamp the image on pattern paper of choice. Cut out around stamped image.
2. Adhere Snowman to the center of the 4” x 4” card
3. Pick out accessories for your snowman, stamp these images on coordinating pattern paper, cut out and adhere to the snowman. You can also stamp your arms directly to the card background at this time.

Tips and other ideas

• Use a black pen and draw an outline around the entire card
• Ink edges of the card using Ranger: Distress Ink
• Spray Ranger: Perfect Pearl Mists onto the background prior to adhering pieces to give a shimmer look.
• Stamp an image, such as a snowflake, to add a visual background.
• Stamp a greeting inside the card or small greeting on the card front (American Crafts has some ADORABLE ones this season as does My Minds Eye)

So what are you waiting for?  Start building your snowmen!!  There is no right or wrong.

November Express Inspiration!

Our Design Team has been busy creating some really beautiful things with this month's MemoryWorks Express kit, 12 Days of Christmas! Lets take a peek:

Here are some great projects from TeamWorks member Betsy Burnett. Let's see what she says about them:

Christmas Memories Altered Canvas:
This canvas was inspired by a photo I found in a bag from the thrift store. (purchased a whole bag of vintage photos for $2) I loved the vintage setting of the Christmas program and was thrilled with the vintage feel of the 12 days kit.

Additional supplies: 8 x 12 canvas, Ranger distress ink (soot, vintage photo) Dymo label maker, heidi swapp edge distresser, gold embossing powder/ink, pop-up glue dots



Treasure these moments layout:
This picture of my daughter at Christmas with her favorite doll is really special to me. She didn't ask for a new doll for Christmas she wanted a "princess" dress for her favorite doll. They are only little once and sometimes I need to remind myself to treasure those simple moments.

Additional notes: I love making these stars. I use the negative space from die cut shapes (the empty part, the hole) I then layer paper strips on the back of it, cutting the entire shape out when finished. They are a great way to use up scraps.




Cherish layout:
Seeing how tall my oldest is getting compared to his sisters and brother reminds me how fast they are all growing up. I cherish these simple moments the most.

Additional supplies: black embossing powder, Ranger distress ink soot, Fiskars apron lace border punch, heidi swapp edge distresser.



Christmas Countdown Calendar:
This mini (8 x 4) altered canvas was turned into a fun Christmas Countdown calendar. The backs of the numbers have a different activity we can do before Christmas to put us in the holiday spirit!

Additional Supplies, Ranger Distress Paint (Brick), Jute twine, holly leaves, brads, stickles-burgandy, ranger distress ink vintage photo, mug/cup hook, Fiskars apron lace punch, pop-up glue dots, one pumpkin spice latte container :)

Noel
I love using paper to the "last bit" and the "noel" from this card as well as the black flourish strip, were cut out from the packaging from the Teresa Collins album.

Star Ornament

This is a great craft with kids. Any "mirror image" shape (think circles, squares, some stars, some triangles) things you can fold in half and have the halves meet up, can be turned into a fun 3-d object. For the star I took 5- 3 inch stars (cut out on the Cricut with George and basic shapes) Then fold them in half. I glued one inside half to the matching inside half of the next. When I got to the last piece I attached ribbon inside for a hanger before closing up the shape. To give it a bit more sparkle and stability I added Stickles on all of the edges of the star.

Got Flowers 2

Recently I shared with you a very simple, beautiful flower that you could make in three minutes, well here is another one that is even simpler. These are the supplies I used:

2 sided patter paper (Used Making Memories – Noel from November Express Kit)

3” circle punch (fiskars)

 Adhesive 

Brown ink

Tim Holtz ink applicator

Large Brad

Ranger - Stickles

1) Punch 5 circles from two sided card stock

 

2. Ink Edges

 3. Fold 4 of the circles in half

 4. Fold them in half again

 5. Adhere all four of the petals to the 5th circle

 6. Punch a hole in the center and insert a brad

 7. Fold up edges slightly and embellish with Stickles

 

It's so easy and these are great for embellishing your layouts, cards or Holiday gifts and tags.
