BONUS! Card Crazy Saturday!

With and extra Saturday in September we get an extra card crazy day!  I had a couple of layouts all ready to post for today and then I got some of the new 6" x 6" paper pads with my new catalogs this week and of course I had to make some cards.  So I put the layouts aside for another day and have a couple of cards to share instead.  Here you go:

I used Lily Bee's Autumn Spice mini-pad for this Thinking of You card.  I combined a couple of patterns and of course, inked the edges.  I stamped and die cut the butterflies and flowers to finish it off.  It is a "z" fold style card which allows for lots of space for decorating.

This Happy Birthday card uses Teresa Collins' Vintage Finds mini-pad, a Jenni Bowlin Flag Tag and the packaging from the flag tags as a panel too.  The embellishments are from last season's Echo Park This & That sticker sheets.  I inked the edges and stamped a flower in the center of the tag.  I made this an easel card just for fun.

Embossing, Banners & a Calendar

Hello scrappy friends, I'm happy to be back for my second week of Creative Friday. I can't believe we've made it through the first month if school already. Having all but one of our girls in school has given me this strange 90 minutes many mornings of... Dare I say free time!! I've found myself in a strange place for sure and I almost feel guilty about it. Don't worry, I got over it pretty quickly!

Here's what I've been working on. I started a few Christmas gifts, especially for Brad's parents who have really helped us out since moving closer to them. I decided to make them a two sided desktop calendar where they can display some pictures of grandchildren & keep track of their days. I found these great 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" spiral bound, blank desktop beauties and thought they'd be perfect for calendars & many other projects.

I'm using the new My Minds Eye All Is Bright 6x6" pad and the 4x6 Elements Pad as well.  I also did some embossing and inked the edges with my Tim Holtz Distress Ink ~ Walnut Stain.  The scalloped banners were created using my Fiskars scalloped circle punch and folding them in half.

Then, I began looking for small printable calendars online. I found exactly what I needed at Calendar Labs. I printed the set I wanted on a 8 1/2" x 11" piece of Kraft cardstock and trimmed them down. These small calendars end up being 2" by 2 9/16".  There are several different varieties to choose from and are free to download and print.  They also open as a Word Document. 

I also wanted to share a quick tip for adhering die cuts and other embellishments over ribbon, especially when it's tied in a bow.  First I tie my bow and position it where I want it on my project.  Then I place pop dots around where the ribbon is laying and adhere them directly to the base of the project as shown below.



This makes is easy to adhere your element on top of the bow without bending it or squishing your bow.  Try it out!  I actually stacked two pop dots on top of each other for even more lift off the front page.

Guest Designer Thursday - Megan Peacock

Welcome back to another week with our September Guest Designer - Megan Peacock. This is our final week with Megan and this week she is sharing some of the projects that she created using the September Express Kit. Check it out..

Last week I featured my kitty cats in a mini-album, so this week in fairness,I did a scrapbook layout of my lab Frodo featuring the September kit. As you can see he was not the cleverest student in class but very much enjoyed snack time and recess!
I had so much fun pulling elements from the kit to use on this lay out- the stamps, the stickers, the tags, and the file folder all came together to make a great collage style design.

Puppy School

The elements in this kits can also be used for other non-school themed projects such as these cards.

A spring card is a great "wowie" style card that really isn't that tricky to do at all. (Instructions for the folds on this card are easily found on the internet.) It's also a great card for showing off 2-sided paper to great advantage.

Sometimes less can be more with card design -and all a card really needs is a few pieces of coordinating paper, a sticker, and a bow  can come together to create a strong design.

Be sure to use all of your left-over tidbits from the kit to create a fun tag like this.Tags can stand alone, be affixed to a card front, or used as an embellishment on a scrapbook layout.

MW Card Crazy Saturday

 Hi... It's Janey and I'm back again for a Card Crazy Saturday!  I know it's late on Saturday night, but didn't want to miss the opportunity to share with you a beautiful card created by fellow TeamWorks member, Lynn Darda:

I love the simple lines and little touches of embellishments to make this card a classic!  I used this card to "scraplift" and created something similar using this month's MW Express Kit.  (We are Memory Keepers Hallpass Collection)

Here is what I came up with....

I love to ink the edges of my layouts and cards, using Tim Holtz inks.  I also used my punch to create the flower like circle.  I then assembled the card in no time, with the card stock stickers from the kit.

Scrapbooking with paint, stamps and washi on

Happy, happy Friday everyone! I love Fridays, especially when I don't have to work.  Today, I'm bringing you TWO very different layouts I created with the same paper theme set.  Those who know me know that I'm a big fan of My Minds Eye.  I also love using different mediums when I scrapbook, including acrylic paint and distressing with water.

First, here's a look at the My Minds Eye Honey Theme Set.  Isn't it sweet and sassy at the same time?  It's perfect for scrapping my girls, who often display both qualities at the same time.



Here's my first sassy layout of our daughter Hannah.  I usually opt for the B side of papers too, but I wanted to reflect on Hannah's personality, which is truly sassy sweet.  I used several of the papers on this sassy sweet layout about Hannah.  I added the matching washi tape and stamped around the main photo using the coordinating honeycomb stamp.  That stamp is awesome!!  I love that you can keep stamping by matching the edges up to create a larger honeycomb stamped area.  Such a clever design!  The title is also from MME, but comes from the Indie Chic collection.

 

 

Next up is our sweet little Abigail at about 4 months.  You can see that I brushed some white acrylic paint across areas of the pink doily paper.  When I first put this layout together, the contrast was to much and it didn't match the mood of my photo.  So, the white paint came out to create this more dreamy effect.  I used my trusty finger to smear the paint around the grey and white floral print photo mat, as well as around the edges of the entire layout.  I added some ZVA Bling, Stampin UP! brads and the small floral coordinating MME stamp.

 

The other technique I used on this layout was curling the edges of the grey floral paper using a little bit of water.  I simply wet my fingers and gently rolled the edges of the paper.  You can do this a little or a lot, depending on the effect you want.  Just a little rolling gave this layout the look that I wanted.

Guest Designer Thursday - Megan Peacock

Hi- it's guest designer Megan back this week with a fun little  brag book about some of my "fur babies".

With the Fabulous Collection Kit and some chip board putting this mini together was a breeze.
 

It required minimal extra embellishments - just a few silver brads, some bakers twine, a button,and ribbon scraps.

I really liked how a scrap of one of the transparency sheets looks tucked between the pages.

 

Never underestimate the power of your black pen for adding some one of a kind  easy hand drawn doodles.
 

Be creative and place the stickers in arrangements that are different from how they come on the carrier sheet for a new look that is distinctly your own creative touch.

Use your white pen to add dot details to simple shapes for a little added spice!)
