Creative Friday!

 

Hey scrappy friends, Jenn here again to share what I've been playing with this week.  I wish I could say I've made lots of cards, tags and layouts, but the reality is that I've made one layout all week.  That's it.  

It's been the best and worst week of my recent life.  I've enjoyed having my daughter home for a visit and finding time around our busy schedules to hang out.  Meanwhile, an issue that has been building all summer came to a head and has caused so much heartache it's hard to think or even do at times.  It will all sift out, I have to stand back and learn when to jump in and when to hold back.  

What I did get to play with this week is the new My Mind's Eye Cut & Paste papers.

 

Here is a layout I made from pix I took of all six kids together for the first time in a couple of years:

I love that my adult kids enjoy each others company and make time for each other.  Jess insisted we restage this photo, the same line up as a photo taken some 15 years ago when they were all young. I also took a bunch of more candid shots of them using my Instax mini.  Instant gratification.  :)

I love the colors in this line! Since they are so cheerful, I used them to make a little inspirational banner for my craft-y area...

Challenge Wednesday

September is such a fun and versatile month for scrapbooking. There is the obvious back to school products and of course the fall sets in. And the industry has not let us down with the fun and cool products. This month's challenge is called CHALK IT UP. Show us how you are using chalk board style elements. Journal on black paper with a white pen. Use some of the word art that looks like it was created on a chalkboard. Make it a small element or the main element. Chalk it up to what inspires you.

Creative Friday Fun!

TGIF!!! Right?  Are you enjoying all the new product emails as the scrappy goodness hits the MemoryWorks shelves?  And are you all experiencing the amazing end of summer weather we are here in South East PA?  To top it off, I became an honorary auntie yesterday.  There is so much to celebrate.  :)  

Jenn here to share some of the fun I've been having in my happy, scrappy space.  Actually, to be truthful I've been having so much fun this summer I, like many of you, have spent a lot less time scrapbooking and more time playing.  This summer flew by and when I look back on everything we did I'm not sure how we accomplished so much.  

Since this is a time of change--weather, leaves and most importantly, the MemoryWorks catalog I have a little old and a little new to share. 

 Teresa Collins He Said, She Said, some washi tape from the same line, and stamps.  The veneer stars and pennant pieces are from my stash.  I had to scrap this photo and the colors were spot on.  Dinara's 3rd birthday.  These papers are in the Spring/Summer catalog.  On to the new...

My Mind's Eye Chalk Studio paper from the new catalog.  The camera cutouts and snapshots are from Memories Captured.  I embossed and stamped a Studio Calico chevron stamp to messy-up the paper a bit.  The washi is from my stash, just to add a hint of color and sequins and pin from my stash to finish it all off.  My granddaughters are beyond cute.  :)  Not that I'm a proud grammy or anything...hehe

So that's all for today, as I said, I've been too busy playing outside to play inside.  More next week, I promise.  Maybe...

Cards & Tags Thursday

Hi! It's Kelly here today to share a card that a recently made with the Simple Stories 24/7 collection.

Simple Stories 24/7 collection kit, twine, button, 1/4 inch hole punch, 1/2 inch hole punch, corner rounder, ticket corner punch, staple

All of the Simple Stories lines are great for layering...just take a variety of different sized flashcards/patterned papers,  punch/distress/round corners to add interest, and pile on with dimensional adhesive. Voila! you have an eye-catching card. Now you try...pick out a product line, give yourself 10 -15 minutes, and see what you can come up with!

Guest Designer - Erica Thompson

Erica's last Guest Designer Post... Saved the best for last, take a look at her mini album tutorial! This is the cutest!!

Erica here with my last Guest Designer post and I am excited to share with you how to put together a quick and easy mini album base out of a cardboard box!  I ordered a new paper trimmer last week and it arrived in this great box and I knew I could not just toss it in the trash! 

So I cut it apart in various sizes to create my mini album!  I knew I wanted it to be 6x6 so I started with my cover and back page first and then just cut smaller sizes from there.   I cut some 5x5, 4x4 , 3.5x6 and one 2.5x5.25.  I did have some extra pieces but I will save those for something else.

Next it was time to paint the edges with some pink acrylic paint  to cover the cardboard and to give the book a little pop when it is all finished. 

I knew I was making this for my 7 year old daughter to put her 2013 memories in so I wanted it to be fun and interactive with all different size pages, lots of color, and sparke!  So I knew Amy Tangerine's Sketchbook line would work great!  I pulled all my wonderful scraps out that I have of Amy Tangerine and a few others that I thought went well with the line, a 6x6 Amy Tan Sketchbook paper pad, and a few embellishments.

Next all you have to do is cover you pages with paper.  I usually cover them all with different pieces of patterned paper or a solid color and then after that I build layers and embellish.

Once you have all your pages covered with some fun paper you will need to punch holes in your pages.  I used a crop-a-dile to punch my holes and find that it is my favorite tool for this because it can punch through a lot! 

Now that you have all your holes punched in your book you are ready for the fun part!!  Embellishments!!  Everyone loves embellishments and adding fun elements to their projects!  There is no wrong way to embellish so just have fun with it!  

Next you will need to bind your mini album.  You can use binder rings, ribbon, or twine to bind your album.  I am going to use binder rings on my album because it is so thick and chunky and it is going to get even bigger once photos are added.

And that is it!  Easy Peesy!  I hope you have enjoyed my quick and easy mini album and I would love for you to give this a try!  You can use cardboard boxes, old packaging, cereal boxes even just some thick cardstock!  They are so simple to make and make great gifts!  Mini albums are my number one favorite project to make and I have so much with them!
