December Daily

Gia back again today with Day 18. In case you missed yesterday's post, here is the cover of my Clipboard Countdown December Daily Album.  

For today's post I wanted to use the envelope that came with the Maggie Holmes Flea Market clipboard to hold some of the proofs (and eventually the card itself) from our portraits for family Christmas Cards this year.

On the opposing page I had to document a selfie I took laying down in the grass at the park totally pooped from not only our portrait session but from the rest of our hectic crazy week! It reminded me of a Subway Art plaque I pinned that said, "This is as Merry as we get." Seriously, at about this time of December I am usually feeling really exhausted and ready for Christmas to finally just get here! So many presents to wrap, so many parties and holiday events to attend, and it seems to all be flurrying by this year. It helps me to think about the true meaning of Christmas. I think it finally all hits me on Christmas Eve- which is when I will be back again for another post! See you then!

December Daily

Aloha, it's Gia. This is my first December Daily post  here on the Memory Works Blog so in case you haven't seen it I will start by showing you the kit I put together with mostly Crate Paper products including Maggie Holmes Flea Market clipboard and Bundled Up Christmas collection called A Clipboard Countdown 

Here is the cover. Before I show December's Day 17 pages I wanted to share a few little highlights from earlier in the month and let you know that the the whole project will be over on my blog.

I wanted to share this little tool I found the other day. It is a pencil that you can use to pick up sequins and rhinestones and other tiny things. It is imported from Hong Kong- and had a really nice price tag compared to tools made for this sort of thing (one dollar). If it starts to lose its stick you just sharpen it a little with a pencil sharpener! 

December 7th was a fun day to document- my Amy Tangerine Project Life class. You can also find the details of the class and some tips for getting started with Project Life on my blog also.

I wasn't sure how I was going to fit all of my December photos in the Clipboard until I remembered that  most of the same day pick up service photo labs will print collages in all standard sizes and they are perfect for using as a whole page or cutting apart into photos scaled just right for a project of this size.  A perfect solution for me!

And now, here are some pics of my Day 17. I used a transparency overlay to protect my photo from getting scratched up by any stray glitter from the page before it. 

It's very rare that my husband and I get to be in a photos together, but this day he had the tripod and timer ready to take a family Christmas card photo so we were able to get one at last.  Stop by again tomorrow for more of my December Daily! 

December Daily Weekend Edition #2

Hey folks, Jenn here again with another weekend Daily edition.  Once again craziness reigned supreme in my life.  Between shopping, cooking, decorating, celebrating, kid's Christmas programs and parties and a couple of inches of snow and ice I took a couple of photos to chronicle the madness-of-it-all.

Friday the 13th...bwahaha...

 I included a pocket here for cards.  I wanted a place to pop all those wonderful photo cards we receive from family and friends and even though they won't all have come on the 13th, it was an opportune spot for this pocket. 

When I made my album I was aware of many of the activities we had planned for the month.  I knew for instance, that this weekend would be bookended by church events and I allowed extra space to include photos of those two events. 

 

 As you'll quickly notice, I created my album assuming I'd have portrait style photos to pop on those conveniently placed 3x4" cards, but alas, that didn't happen.  No matter.  I just stacked the photos and popped on a stocking and rhinestone word embellishment. 

I used a die cut page layered on a pattern paper page for fun and a wood veneer flourish with a holly sprig that I colored and added sequins to. 



Shout out to my STARs, who performed their very first puppet show ever, on five weeks of lessons and        practice.  They did a wonderful job. 

Saturday...snow and ice.  I decorated my tree, made a big pot of turkey soup and my husband and I went to a party with a white elephant gift exchange.  The box of hardware will be emptied and I'll use the compartments for scrappy organization but that snowman tray is going to find a new home...;)

I put embellishments on both the inside of the pockets as well as the outside.  These snowflakes were stamped, die cut and embellished with more sequins and adhered to the outside of the protector.

 Sunday--Week three of Advent, focused on joy.  The devotional materials are in one pocket.  The photos depict our annual church Christmas Celebration.  The room was packed out as usual, you could barely walk through.  The kids performed their program again and the STARs did their puppet presentation again. 

I love to repeat embellishments, especially in a theme mini, so you'll see lots of these snowflakes dropping down. 

Bonus!  I wanted to share this page topper I made.  Inspiration can be found everywhere.  From the first minute I saw the swag/banner decorations in Target I knew I was going to recreate the effect on a scrapbook page.  If you've shopped your local Target and looked up, you will have noted that there was mostly flat circles with a few 3-D circles mixed in.  I created that look, punching circles, folding them in half and gluing them together to create the 3-D circles.  I embossed some of the circles to add texture and interest.

December Daily - Day 11

I am doing my December Daily in a different way than shared by most on here.  But I am not a mini-book maker.  Plus I never know what to do with them afterwards. 

This is my title page for my 2013 layouts.  It looks a little familiar maybe?  ;) 

I used Sn@p Binder page protectors in my album.  Most paper lines these days are creating their paper lines around this type of page protector, so it makes it very easy to trim the paper and slide them in.  And at this time of year, you can always use easy right? 
I chose to work with Echo Park's Tis the Season, and throw in a few of my favorite things to pretty it up.  However I kept it very simple. 
I feel with this type of layout, I could easily  make the inserts that I knew I'd have coming up and then move things as needed.  Also simply print out the pictures and slip them in.  It makes it all very stress free. 

Here is my first page, which features some of our decorations and an early celebration with my brother's family.    (I don't document everyday, but I do document all of the important things we do in December related to Christmas.)

Here is a close up section about our Elf on the Shelf.  I've gone a little bit further making a decorative insert that I can add a small elf photo later.

December Daily ~ 12/9

Hello all!! Jody here again with some more December Daily for you.  This has been a fun project to create and I hope everyone is inspired to create their own December Daily of sorts this year.  Today I'm sharing my December 9th page.  My countdown calendar is very layered with lots of different sized pages throughout.  You'll see my December 10th page peaking out from behind my little page 9 :)  I'll have lots of pictures on my blog today and Wednesday so please click over HERE!!  I've love to see you.

 

Here's another look at my kit too.  It's packed full of all kinds of embellishments, some of which didn't make it into my December Daily!  I have lots of left overs for Christmas Cards and even some holiday layouts.  More information on my blog.

December Daily--Weekend Catch-up

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend filled with holiday fun!  I sure did.  I'll start by backtracking to my December Daily set-up since this is my first post of the month.
 

I started with a red-spined Sn@p binder, the pages and protectors inside and added to that the December Documented Sn@p pages.  I didn't end up using all the the pages from both sets, so I cut some up and am making good use of all my materials.  I added in the December Sn@p 3x4 cards, the December Documented Designer Cardstock pack, and December Documented Pockets pack along with the 6x6 pad and other bits and pieces from my stash.  I titled my Daily "Waiting for Christmas" to go along with the Advent devotional I'm doing this season.  I layered up papers from the 6x6 pad, cards and pockets with a doily from my stash and ribbon left over from MME Lush collection (which I used for my daughter's wedding album).  I inked everything of course, that's just my style.  I set up my pages thinking about my month, leaving extra space in weekend pages for the extra activities we enjoy then.

There a lot of bits and pieces sticking out, that's also my style.  :)

Onto the weekend.  As you'll see it was all about food and snow. 

I stamped all the day numbers with an old foam stamp set and punched them out with tag punches.  I used my Instax camera to take the pix so they could go right into the album.  

As you can see I've included my Advent devotion right into the pockets of my Daily.  It is important to me to remember the reason we celebrate Christmas and this devotional is helping me stay focused on that in the midst of the constant barrage of materialism this season brings.  It just so happened that this week's message in church mirrored the message in my devotion so I tucked the notes right into the pocket behind my devotion notes. 

 

I created this element by cutting a piece of cardstock 8 1/8" long, 3" wide and scored it at 4" and slid it right into the protector pocket, creating this little flap that allowed for an extra photo and journaling card.  I adhered a Sn@p pocket on the outside to tuck in the devotional notes. 

So that was my weekend.  What about yours?  Did you cook,  bake, decorate, shop, enjoy time with family and friends, or just enjoy some quiet time before the rush?  I pretty much hit all of the above, and love this crazy time of the year.

December Daily - December 6

It's December 6 and I am chronicling the 5th day of my December Daily.

I had to run to the DMV today before work and I decided to go the the Herald square office. When I got out at 34th Street, it's still a hike to exit the subway. But on my stroll through Penn Station, I came across 2 very different musicians. It was 7:45am and the station was so hectic that the music settled me down a bit and I was inspired to photograph them.
