Lisa Harris--September Guest Designer!

This month I am please to introduce as our September Guest Designer, the fabulous Lisa Harris. Lisa has been with MemoryWorks for a little over two years and is excited to be our guest designer this month.

Now for a bit more from Lisa...

I live in a small town in Northwest Louisiana. I am mom to two boys – both sophomores – one in high school and the other in college. I teach third grade at the best little elementary school in the world.

I’ve been a MemoryWorks consultant for just over two years, and I love everything about the company. My customers and I love the great variety of the newest products – it seems like there are new things coming in every day!

I host crops and teach layout classes, but for my own personal pages, I like to work QUICKLY. I’ve got a lot of years worth of pictures to work on, so I get frustrated if I can’t churn ‘em out when I do get time to scrap. That’s why I’m in love with sketches! I’m a huge fan of Becky Fleck’s PageMaps website. Becky (who just happens to be the sketch artist for our MemoryWorks Idea Express) puts out a new batch of sketches each and every month. She has also produced two books of sketches. I don’t know how she does it!

The projects I’m sharing with you come directly from some of Becky’s sketches. The first was an 8 ½” x 11” landscape sketch that I stretched into a two-page 12” x 12.” See? That’s what I love! Sketches are so versatile, yet they give me a great place to start, and I don’t have to spend my time figuring out the placement of things.

Here’s the sketch ,

and here’s my interpretation
.

This layout uses Pink Paislee’s 365 Degrees paper set. I used my Cricut with Make the Cut software to create the flourishes, the title (good old Times New Roman), and the photo bracket. I love the bright, happy colors, and I especially love how EASILY it came together!

After making my pages, I had tons of paper left, so I decided to make a card. Again, I turned to a PageMaps sketch (yep, she makes them for cards, too!) and had a really cute project in no time flat.
Here’s the sketch: ,

and here’s my creation:

Just a piece of cardstock, a scrap of paper, a die cut punch-out, some ribbon, and a little bling. Voila! If you haven’t used sketches before, I hope I’ve inspired you to try them. It’s my go-to scrappin’ strategy!
