Inspiration Friday - My Minds Eye

When I saw the My Minds Eye - Portobello Road collection, I instantly thought how perfect it would be to highlight photos of my nephew. In his Auntie's eyes (he can say Auni) he is the most perfect and handsome boy around. I love and adore this little guy and this paper definitely lets him shine with a classy look.

The "Ticket" is from the Trims packaging. I loved it and cut it out from the packaging to use on my layout.

Product Wednesday - Paper Tearing and Football!

I recently heard a new song from Kenny Chesney entitled “The Boys of Fall” which has to do with fresh cut grass, helmets, shoulder pads, fans and the thrill of the football game not to mention the nostalgia of a small town and the community that support of the game! After hearing the song while on a recent trip to my nephew’s college football game and my grandson flag football game, I thought it would make a perfect “non-traditional” football page. I also wanted to incorporate how tearing paper adds texture and dimension to scrapbooking.

Tearing paper is so simple and quick and you can't make a mistake. First cut the paper the length and size you want.

When tearing cardstock, hold the paper and the side you want to tear in your hand and tear towards you keeping your hands pretty close together. I get more control in tearing the paper when I do that.

If you have “white core” paper it will show up more when you do this process and adds even more character. I like to ink my edges, which adds interest as well.

Here is a sample of what I did with torn paper on the “Boys of Fall” layout using our October MemoryWorks Express Kit!

Try tearing on your next layout or card... you won't be disappointed!

Happy Scrappin’

October Guest Designer

Welcome MemoryWorks Consultant Rosann Santos-Elliot as the October 2010 Guest Designer. We are thrilled with Rosann's projects and can't wait to share them with you and inspire you! SO lets get started!

Hola, my fellow Memory Workers. My name is Rosann Santos-Elliott (AKA Brooklyn Girl Next Door). I am a Bronx girl living in Brooklyn who received a scrapbook for my baby shower and that was all she wrote. I love photography and it’s been a hobby of mine since I was a kid. Scrapbooking and journaling have become my outlets for showcasing my favorite photos! I recently found a scrapbook I made when I was 12 of my summer after an entire summer in the Dominican Republic and it brought back so many memories. I couldn’t believe how I had come full circle, a wife, a mother, a career woman, a scrapper!

What inspires me? My son, vintage photos and New York City, NY. I am lucky to have access to some great old photos from my mom and other relatives. I am really into vintage techniques and have started scrapping my parents wedding album from 40 years ago. As for New York City, love it or hate it, there are always great photo ops. I hope you enjoy some of my creations. Check me out at brooklyngirlnextdoor.blogspot.com for more of my Memory Works Creations. Happy scrapping.

This layout highlights my hometown. Let me tell you, the ele.men.tary kit is really versatile. The one page layout is from a family outing to the World Financial Center in downtown Manhattan, the site of Ground Zero. I got some great shots of the skyline. This “S is for Sailing” layout uses ONLY the ele.men.tary line!
Photobucket
This invite was also exclusively ele.men.tary. There was a challenge on MW Creative Studio but I missed it. I made an invite anyway. The invite is a tag inside a pocket.

And of course, ele.men.tary is great for the first day of school.
Photobucket
But let’s not forget the classic simple stories line, Life Documented. It’s just a versatile. My son’s 3rd birthday.

His little friend’s 3rd birthday one month later.

Memory Works partners have great paper lines and products. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.
Bo Bunny Mama-razzi
I love playing around with sepia and black and white
Photobucket
Here’s one of my favorite vintage photos. My great uncle’s first visit to NYC…it was snowing in Central park and he threw himself in the snow tailored suit, hat and all, circa 1952. Cool Huh?!?

Fantastic projects Rosann!! We are looking forward to what else you have in store. Check out Rosann's October Express Kit projects here on the blog - Monday, October 18!

In case you're on the fence after the last post...

Because any good addict tries to minimize their guilt by enticing others to participate in their illicit activity, I wanted to share a couple projects I found on the MW Studio consultant idea gallery. If you were doing a double take after seeing the picture of BoBunny's Whoo-ligans line in the last post, you'll HAVE.TO.HAVE.IT. after you see these:

Thank you Sheri Feypel for your absolutely ADORABLE layouts and card...I'm placing the blame for enabling thousands of consultants everywhere to justify buying another set of Halloween paper squarely on your shoulders. Unless that means the MemoryWorks home office sells tons of sets...then I'll take one for the team and take the "blame". :)
