June MW Express Kit TeamWorks Project Highlights

Time is flying by. It seems like I just did my weekly post. The week went by fast. Just like I can't believe we're half way through June already. If the months keep flying by like this, christmas will be here before we know it. But in the meantime, we can enjoy the awesome MW Express kits that come out each month. FYI: the UPS man just came to my house as I sit here typing. I can't wait to dig into my kit! This months kit is beautiful because I love the colors of the blues, greens, and browns. I also love the papers and flowers and ribbons, etc. It is always nice to see how other scrapbookers use these kits and what they create from the kit. So this week we will look at a few projects made from the June kit by a couple of fellow TeamWorks members, Sarah Crawford and Kemi Forestieri.

"Traveling Nap Stars" Layout by Kemi Forestieri

"Clothespin Photo Holder" by Kemi Forestieri

I love how both ladies altered clothespins. Sarah used the regular sized ones and Kemi used the large clothespin. I altered a couple of large clothespins a couple of years ago myself and gave one to my mom for mother's day with a photo of me and my brother together. I love Sarah's Wicked layout where she incorporated her Playbill and ticket stubs on the layout. And I love how Kemi used the calendar card on the front of her birthday card she made.

To see more projects made by these 2 ladies and more, go to www.memory-works.com and click on Idea Gallery under Inspiration or click here.

Now to go and open my kit. Thanks UPS man!!:)

Creative Friday - Acrylic Frame LO

I love working with acrylic frames. There are so many options. You can create a mini layout to place inside the frame, put a photo in the frame and decorate the surface of the acrylic or simple add ribbon around the frame. Endless possibilities!

For the project below I used a 5x7 acrylic frame purchased at Target. I created a mini layout (5x7) to fit inside the frame. This project took me 30 minutes (or less) and will be a great addition to any room!

Product Wednesday - Father's Day Card

Father's Day is just around the corner so I was trying to come up with an idea for a card for my father for Father's Day. He always gets excited about receiving a homemade card from me each year. I saw this idea on origami, so I thought I would try it and share with you what I did. You may have seen this before, but for me origami has always been an issue, so I wanted to tackle the challenge.
First I took a piece of MemoryWorks cardstock and cut it to 4"x 6".
I folded the cardstock in half on the longer side.
Then I took the paper and made folds into the center of each side.
I flipped the folds over so the seam was on top and
I turned the top of the paper down about 1/2 in.
I turned the paper back over and brought the corners in to create the collar.
Then I brought the end up from the center and created a crease and tucked the paper into the collar.
I opened the "paper-shirt" back up and folded back the edges (this will create the sleeves).
I tucked the fold back into the collar and there you go. You could finish there, however, I wanted to ink it up. So I took it apart and did just that using the Tim Holtz Distress Ink (I just love that stuff!
Then I took yellow paper and cut it to 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 and created the card. I cut a 4 x 4 piece of MemoryWorks cardstock and layered another 3 x 3 piece on it and placed it on the card. Then I assembled the card together with embellishments (A die-cut tie and Pebbles Red Candy Dots). I tried something out of my "creative box", and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and hope that my dad will too!
Happy Father's Day to all the father's out there!

I encourage you to try something new and see what great results you get. Its always fun to try to new things.

Happy Scrappin!

June's Guest Designer

I can't believe we are into June already. It is that time of the month to announce the guest designer for the month. This month's guest designer is no stranger to us. She was a TeamWorks Member in the past. I was lucky enough to work with her last year on some challenges we hosted together. She is a very nice person and very creative. So who is this person you might ask? It is the one and only.......................................................

Kari Roach

Kari Roach!

This is what Kari had to say:

"I discovered scrapbooking 10 years ago after I married my husband Chris and moved from Utah to the midwest. I didn't realize that this wonderful hobby was right at my doorstep until after I moved out of the state. When I found MemoryWorks I was so excited to sell products that I already use and own. I have been and a part of the MemoryWorks family since 2003 and I was a member the creative team for 5 years. While my life has become busier, my scrapbooking style has simplified over the years. When I first started scrapbooking (I had no kids and a lot more time) I would spend days or weeks on a single page. Today, I can put the basics of the page together in a few hours. I scrapbook to tell stories, to express myself artistically and to inspire others. I am motivated by my three kids and the funny things they do and say. I love this hobby and love MemoryWorks just as much. Thanks for the opportunity to inspire you this month." Kari Roach

Now for a sampling of Kari's work. These projects shows you how creative she is.
"This years Spring cleaning wrapped up with taking down Madeline’s crib and assembling the big girl bed. This also included organizing her closet, toys and bookshelf; getting rid of everything baby. While I was cleaning I found several necklaces and bracelets that she has begun to accumulate. I thought a fun project for her room would be to create a place to hang her jewelry.

The first project is made from a 8 X 10 photo frame with the glass removed. The frame was originally dark blue. I removed the glass. Painted it white and then put a coat of lime green on top. I didn’t cover the entire frame with the green. Leave some white showing to add character.

Photo #1 Painted frame

After the paint is dry, use a silver leafing kit to add finishing touch to the frame.

The inside of the frame is created directly on the frame insert. Glass is removed and not used in this project. Add background paper directly to the frame inside backing. I used Fancy Pants About a Girl Theme Set, Glitter Cuts and Brads to decorate the inside of the frame.

Photo #4 Back with paper

Center the large glitter cut with the hearts hanging down. Adhere along the top with adhesive and adhere ribbon along the top edge.

Use the Big Bite to punch a hole for the cup hooks. It is difficult to get into the center. You can use an anywhere hole punch if you want hooks in a hard to reach place. Insert cup hooks into the holes. Secure on the back with foam blocks. I used the foam that comes with the Fancy Pants brads.

Add embellishments such as a title, flowers, buttons and brads. Enjoy. A custom altered frame that will look adorable in the new big girl room.

Photo #7. Finished Project.
Kariblogproject7

My second project is along the same line. A little simpler but just as cute.

For this project I took a piece of paper with a decorative edge, traced the design on a piece of chipboard. Cut it out. Inked the edges and used a small rectangle to punch holes for the coil. My holes are spaced ½” apart but it will differ depending on the size of your coil.

Photo #8
Kariblogproject8

I bought the coil at the scrapbooking store. It is a binding wire by We R Memory Keepers. Mine is .75” You can also use the wire coil from an old notebook.

Cover the chipboard with pattern paper and embellish. I used two more Glitter Cuts from Fancy Pants About a Girl, flowers and brads."

Product Wednesday - White Flowers

Petaloo: White flowers are a GREAT blank canvas. I love to explore using different techniques to take these flowers to the next level! Below you will find some ideas on how to alter Petaloo white flowers to coordinate with any layout or project you are working on!

1. Tattered Angels: Glimmer Mist - Spray the flower with one or multiple colors of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. I used Adventure kit (yellow & walnut)
Photobucket
2. Ranger: Distressed Ink - Using my Ink Blending Tool and Non-stick craft mat, I applied Distress ink to the flower in a circular motion. I kept adding colors until I got the look I wanted. To give it more of a water color look, spritz some water on the flower, let dry.
Photobucket
3. Stamp (I used Teresa Collins - Welcome Home & American Crafts - Whistle Small, ANY stamp will work). Stamp an image or text in any ink color you choose to coordinate with your project! A quick, easy way to add life to your blank canvas flowers.
Photobucket
4. Ranger: Stickles - add a little glitter to your flowers. I used Rock Candy Stickles on the flower below, but use any color of stickles to add some sparkle to your projects!
Photobucket
5. Rhinestones - decorate your flower by adding some rhinestones.
Photobucket
Head over to my blog for a few other ideas on what to do with blank canvas flowers.

Here are a few cards I created with my blank canvas Petaloo flowers, using BasicGrey Cappella theme set (and matching embellishments).
