Creative Friday: Celebration Guest Book

Graduations, baby and bridal showers, birthdays...lots of things to celebrate! Need a special gift for the graduate or mommy-to-be, or bride-to-be? Create a guest book for your next celebration!

I created this album/guest book/autograph book as a custom-order for a friend of mine using:

-My Mind's Eye Lush album in Brown (I used two albums - one set of covers and all the filler pages)
-Pink Paislee: 365 Degrees Theme Set, Clear Stamps, Flip Notes, and Die-Cuts
-Jenni Bowlin: Embellished Butterflies in Orange
-Zva: Mini Flourish Jewels
-Colorbox Ink: Dark Brown
-Jillibean Soup Polka Dot ribbon (Simple Stories Ribbon Bundle)
-Tim Holtz: Metal Key Words

You could easily create a baby-themed guest book using the Pink or Blue My Mind's Eye Lush Album

or any other theme with the many colors offered. Just pick a theme set and embellishments that go with your celebration color-scheme and start creating! Decorate every other page to leave space for guests to write notes and well-wishes!

Calling All Pet Owners!

You will LOVE BasicGrey’s Max & Whiskers’ Collection. This collection covers all species: dogs, cats, fish, bunnies, even snakes. The papers in the theme set have colors and patterns everyone is sure to love. The 6 X 6 Paper Pad is great for smaller projects and all the embellishments are cute! Especially the woolies with their wiggly eyes! I was so excited when the UPS man came to my house Friday afternoon so I could get my hands on this cute collection. Can you tell how much I love this collection?;)

So of course I had to make something(s) from these products. For starters I created a slider card using a piece of the 6 X 6 Paper Pad, a piece of cardstock, and embellishments.

Step 1: Gather supplies. Cut cardstock into 9” X 5 ½” and patterned paper/cardstock into 4 ½” X 4”.


Step 2: From the left edge of the cardstock, measure and draw vertical lines 4” and 8 ¼”. Score and fold on creases.


Step 3: Open card and place card so narrow panel is to the right. From the top of the middle panel, measure down and draw horizontal lines 1” and 4 ½” from top.


Step 4: In middle panel again, draw vertical lines 7/8” and 3 ¼” from the left line/fold of the middle panel.


Step 5: Carefully cut the vertical lines between the two horizontal lines. (Ruler is placed to show how card should look with the slits.) Set card aside.


Step 6: On the wrong side of the 4 ½” X 4” piece of paper, draw a vertical line 1 ¾” from the left edge of the paper. Measure down from the top on the vertical line 3 ¼” and mark with a dot. Cut down the vertical line to the dot.


Step 7: Open card face down like in steps 2-5. Place the piece of paper from step 6 face down on top of card with the cut running horizontally with the cut end to the left. Slip the cut piece of paper through both slits in the middle panel of the card.


Fold over the left panel of the card to the back side of the middle panel and adhere the small panel (to the right of the card) to the left panel of the card.

Step 8: Add any sayings, messages, or pictures to center cardstock under slider as shown. Embellish as desired. (Before I assembled, I inked the edges of the Papaya Puree Medium cardstock with Distress Ink in Wild Honey and the edges of the patterned paper with Distress Ink in Frayed Burlap. I also used a circle punch to notch the end of the two cardstock panels. I trimmed one of the Max & Whiskers Pieces to fit on center of cardstock.)



Finished Project:


You could write the new address on opposite side of card. You can make this card anyway you wish such as a birthday card, thank you card, etc.

Debbie Sherman!!

Debbie will be sharing her creative style with us for the month of May. I love her use of color and just the overall appearance of her work. She is very creative and talented, so lets give her a warm welcome as May's Guest Designer.


Here is a little about Debbie:


I’m Debbie, and I live in Wyoming with my husband, Jeff. I'm so excited to be your Guest Designer for May!! I was introduced to scrapbooking over 20 years ago, I knew immediately that it was a natural fit for me. Since then scrapbooking has become my daily passion.. it’s my way of staying close to my grand children who live 500 miles away and my way of watching them grow up. My inspiration is derived from my family - our celebrations and our heartaches - and everything in between. Good photography, a strong sense of design, use of color, texture and movement are the cornerstones of my pages. I consider my style "Shabby with a Sparkle" which means I love bling and glitter! When I'm not scrapbooking, I'm designing highways for the Wyoming Department of Transportation.


I've been a part of the Memory Works family for several years now. I have watched them blossom into a wonderful community and an inspiring family of scrappers and crafters.

Handmade Ribbon Flowers

I love handmade embellishments.  I love ribbon and I love flowers of any kind.  I have a budget friendly project that you can do to make your own ribbon flowers out of those little scraps of ribbon that you really can't use anywhere else but you really just don't want to throw them away, so you stash them away for that perfect project.  This is an awesome idea for using those small scraps of ribbon.  I saw these flowers used on a layout on the Bo Bunny website and fell in love with the look of them and decided I would give them a try.  They are so easy to make that I thought I would share it with you.

The flower I am going to show you is made with ribbon strips 3 1/2 inches long for the first layer and 4 strips 2 1/4 inch long.  I just love these flowers. 


What you do:
Here is what you need to start with:
4 - 3 1/2 "  strips of ribbon in a pattern or solid
4 - 2 1/4"   strips of ribbon that complements your other ribbon
1 -  scrap piece of patterned paper to make three leaves for your flower
1 -  punched circle to mount the ribbons on
1 - Coordinating button or bling for the finished center

After you have all your pieces cut and laid out you take the punched circle and the (4) 3 1/2 inch pieces of ribbon.  I took a glue dot and placed it in the center of the punched circle to help hold the four pieces of ribbon on the circle while I stapled it.   

You will take 2 of the 3 1/2" ribbons and lay them in a cross on the circle.  Then you will take the other 2 pieces of 3 1/2' ribbons and lay them in an X across the first two pieces.  your flower will look like this:

 

Once your ribbon it placed where you want it, you will take your stapler and staple it in the center.

After the first layer is done you will take your shorter ribbon and lay it out the same way you did the first layer, except you want to lay the second layer of ribbon so that it is filling in the empty places between the ribbons on the first layer, and then you will staple it in place.  It should look like this:

After you have assembled your ribbon flower, you will need to take your scissors and fringe the edges of the ribbon.  It will give it more dimension and make it look flowery.  Your flower should look similar to this:

Once you have assembled and fringed your flowers you can add the finishing touches by using a button with floss or ribbon through threaded through the holes or add some bling to the center to give it a little more sparkle.  I added a button and ribbon to mine. 

 

Finally you can take your patterned paper and cut three leaves our of it to fit your flower.  I cut mine out of Basic Grey Green at Heart paper, then folded them lengthwise and cut a slit in the center of the leaves to give them dimension.  This is what my flower looks like when it was finished:

 

I love the way this flower looks.  You can change it by making it smaller or larger.  You can also add more layers to give it more dimension.  I hope that you enjoyed this project as much as I did and I look forward to seeing what you do with the flowers you can make.
