Product Wednesday -- Poinsettia Flowers

The MemoryWorks Express Kits are awesome kits full of great products. The possibilities are endless with what you can make from these kits. So I am sharing with you how to make the poinsettia flowers I made from the November 2010 MW Express kit.

--Nov10 MWE Kit
--Teresa Collins: Noel – Definitions Paper (poinsettias)
--My Mind’s Eye: I Believe – Dots Paper (poinsettia leaves)
--Distress Ink: Peeled Paint, Fired Brick
--TomBow Multi Glue
--American Crafts: Dimensional Dots
--Scissors
--Tweezers
Non-MW Products Used:
--Nicole Bead It: Seed Beads – Seed 10/0 Lt. Yellow (poinsettia centers)
--Pencil and Eraser

Step 1: Gather supplies.

Step 2: Using a pencil, trace petals, leaves, stems, and buds onto patterned paper(s) of choice. For large flower, you will need 1 large petals, 1 medium petals, and 2 large leaves. For medium flower, you will need 1 medium petals, 1 small petals, and 2 small leaves. For large flower bud, you will need 1 three-petal bud and 1 two-leaf stem. For small flower bud, you will need 1 two-petal bud and 1 one-leaf stem.


Step 3: Cut petals, leaves, stems, and buds out. Erase any pencil marks left on petals, leaves, stems, and buds.


Step 4: Ink the edges of the petals and buds with Fired Brick and leaves and stems with Peeled Paint.


Step 5: Adhere smaller petals on top of larger petals using a dimensional dot. Glue 2 leaves to back of flower as shown. Glue buds to back of stems. Shape petals as desired.


Step 6: Apply a small circle of glue on center of smaller petals. Sprinkle yellow beads onto glue and lightly press beads into place with tweezers. You can use glitter, buttons, embossing powder, brads, candy dots, etc. for the flower centers.


These flowers can be made for different projects. I made the poinsettias and adhered them to a wreath. I also adhered one small poinsettia on a page in my “Christmas Past” mini album.


You can make as many of these flowers as you wish depending on the project. You can make these to use on cards, tags, on altered items, and household items. It would look great with curling ribbon on top of Christmas gifts in place of a bow. The possibilities are endless with what you can do with these flowers.
